The Need for Speed franchise has fallen on hard times in recent years. The last arcade-focused game in the series, Need for Speed: Undercover, was not well received. Last year’s solid sim-racer, Need for Speed: Shift was a good enough game, but not what fans of the series’ arcade racing roots were looking for.
The pairing of Criterion Games, famous for the crash-tastic Burnout games, and the Need for Speed liscence is an inspired match. We are likely to get the best Need for Speed game ever, and Criterion may well experience the best sales of their career.
The team at Criterion seems enegized by the opportunity. Writing on their website, they note:
This is Criterion’s first chance to play with liscenced vehicles, including the Koenigsegg CCX, the McLaren MP4-12C, the Pagani Zonda Cinque, the Ford Shelby GT500, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4, and the Lamborghini Murciélago. With their patented 60 frames per second game engine, and their unhinged approach to racing, Criterion just may end up making these cars look better than ever.
“Cops are kitted out with a full suite of weapons and gear to help them bring lawbreakers to justice. As the pursuit escalates, so does the equipment available. The trailer shows ‘Road Block’, ‘Spike Strip’ and ‘Helicopter Support’ in action, but you’ll also make use of many others as a Cop and a Racer!”
For several of us here at Game Rant, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is an early highlight of this years Electronic Entertainment Expo. How about you, Ranters? Ready for a little Hot Pursuit?
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit blows through the roadblocks November 16, 2010 in North America, and on November 18 and 19, 2010 in Europe on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
